Perhaps the sweetest photography in existence is that of newborn photography. The current trend here in Montgomery County seems to be having the baby sleeping and wrapped in stretchy scarves. While that does look nice, it doesn't tell me anything about that baby and their family. Chase happened to be a beautiful little baby boy who slept soundly for part of the session, then while awake was mostly happy. I couldn't ask for a better model!
Even though I have a nice basket and an awesome moon that I often use as props with newborns, if I can make a photo more personal, I do. In this case, I asked the parents if they have a particular sport or sports team, or interest such as music, that I could use as a theme. They didn't, but they mentioned that the theme of his nursery is woodland animals. I was pretty excited to use that, and even shot the baby's session in his house so we could make use of his existing stuffed animals. The thing about a basket prop is that it can really be any size, and doesn't truly let you know how tiny the baby is in relation. But the stuffed animals we used belong to this baby, and can be used in photos with him for years to come! So over time, you'll be able to see how big he has grown relative to his newborn session.
